Barn Swallowtail

This barn swallowtail is in flight! Every piece, from the tiniest feather, beak, and eye, was hand cut on my scroll saw, then hand shaped, carved, and painted to create striking dimension.

If you’ve been watching my stories on social media, you know I’ve officially landed in my bird‑watching era this year.

Seeing a barn swallow is high on my list of birds I want visiting my feeders and since I haven’t spotted one in the wild yet, I decided to create one from wood. 

The hardwood checkerboard backer is made from White Wenge and Wenge, giving this already dimensional piece even more depth.

This piece is part of my “mini collection,” but the delicate details and tiny cuts make it absolutely mighty.
