Magnolias

This magnolia branch is dreamy! From the delicate soft aspen petals and emerging buds growing from the black walnut branch to the glow of the figured maple backer. It was made to be adored in every season. 

This piece was a shift back to softness in contrast to my last collection and exactly what my soul craved to create this month. 

The maple I used for the backer of this piece was such a beautiful surprise! I originally found it as a rough discounted piece at a local lumber yard. It was in pretty bad shape when I brought it home, but after hours of work, this incredible figure emerged from underneath. The chatoyance in the maple catches the light almost like rays of sunshine and changes as you move around the piece. 

The thick black walnut frame grounds the softness of the magnolias and gives the piece some permanence. Each corner of the frame is reinforced with maple splines, adding strength to the joints while also giving it an additional elegant detail. 

Every element of this piece was cut, shaped, sanded and finished by hand to create a piece of wood art that brings a piece of nature indoors. 

I am so pleased with how this piece came together and I hope it finds a space where it can be enjoyed for many years to come. 

Woods used: Aspen, Black Walnut, Poplar, Maple

No stains, dyes or paints were used in this piece.
