Spores of Salene

Spores of Selene

15" x 12" | Hand-Cut Wood Mosaic | One of a Kind

I've always been fascinated by mushrooms. They seem to appear overnight, quietly transforming a forest floor into something magical. Spores of Selene was inspired by those organic shapes and the sense of wonder they bring.

Each layer is hand-cut from Myrtle Burl, one of my favorite woods to work with. The grain is absolutely mesmerizing, full of movement and warm golden tones that seem to shift as the light changes. Hidden within the piece is a little surprise: under blacklight, the mushrooms reveal a soft glow, adding an unexpected touch of enchantment.

The mushrooms are set against a chevron mosaic backer crafted from rich Wenge. The contrast between the dark geometric background and the flowing natural forms creates a sense of movement that keeps drawing your eye back for another look. Burl and Wenge accents frame the piece seamlessly, allowing the wood itself to tell the story.

This is one of those pieces that feels different every time you walk past it. Warm, curious, and just a little mysterious.
